4 year old Buddy - REHOMED through another rescue
« on: March 06, 2014, 09:47:06 pm »
We are a very small dog rescue, based in Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire. Among the dogs in our care is Buddy, a 4 year old castrated brindle and white English Bull Terrier.  He has been with us for over a year.  We have had some interest both to home and foster him but they did not work out, so currently he is in kennels, although I take him to work 4 days a week.  I work at a dog crèche attached to a dog training school, both of which give some support to the rescue, so he has received a good deal of training and has just started taking part in a weekly class.

I am writing to enquire whether you would be able to help us find a suitable home for Buddy.  He is very affectionate, but can be aggressive to other dogs, and would certainly need to be the only pet in the home.

Obviously we need an experienced English Bull Terrier owner and we are looking for a loving family home.

Such a shame....not been an issue for us with toddy as we are so used to it....even if he was dog friendly we would still be so careful around other dogs! im sure that there is someone out there waiting to snap him up.....good luck buddy boy....wish you could come to us :P

From Buddy's rescue foster:

Buddy is very affectionate and loves a fuss.  Generally he is friendly with people and is happy to see them, but, among the many people he has seen, there have been a couple of people he has barked at.  Also, when he had a nail bed infection, he objected to his paw being touched.  It took 6 weeks and several vet visits to clear up the problem, and he is now very touchy about being handled by the vet.  He would always have to be muzzled at the vets.

Buddy did live with a 2 year old child and his owner said he was fine with them.  However, we would not want to home him with pre-teens as he is possessive about toys and he will guard them.  I do not think he could live with a cat or any other pet.  He is lively and very much enjoys his walks, but equally he is very quiet in the home (he has been at our house for quite a number of weeks when he had medical problems).  He is ok to be left and is not destructive.  He accepts a crate perfectly well.  He will sit and wait before he is allowed to eat his food and he does not mind someone being close while he eats.  I think that I have even stroked him while he was eating but have never tried to take the food away.  He generally walks well on a lead and will listen to his handler.  He does not generally react aggressively to other dogs unless they are close and show aggression towards him, show high energy or are very vocal.

Hi Ruth

Just to let you know that we have potential new owners for Buddy.  They have met him and are very keen and we are doing the home check on Monday.  I will let you know what happens.  Many thanks for your help so far.
