7 or 8 year old male - Rodney - Hampshire
« on: March 23, 2014, 03:00:03 pm »
This poor soul was kept on the end of a chain for the first 6/7 years of his life, he then went in to 'rescue' and has spent the last year in kennels , he was getting very kennel stressed going round and round in circles before collapsing on the floor and starting all over again. A very kind lady took pity on him and offered to temporarily care for him to save him being PTS.

She has had him 3 weeks, he has been fantastic with her 3 young children, her farm cats and seems to be fine with her other 4 dogs although she has not had them loose altogether yet but there has been no aggression shown through the stair gate or on walks or in her garden.

In the short time he has been with her she has had him neutered, housetrained him and tested him for food agression of which he has none, he takes treats very gently, so much so she will let her children give him treats. He has done amazingly well in the home considering his past and has never messed in the house, he was scared of grass, sand, going inside a house, the washing machine, the sofa, the bed.......everything. Being a typical bullie he has realised that home comforts are the best and he will now jump on the sofa, lay on the grass, run on the sand and is unfazed by day-to-day household noises.

We would love him to be an only dog in the house, he has been caged or chained for all his life and deserves to be free for the rest of his days. He is not destructive, does not chew, and does not mess in the house so if he is an only dog there is no reason to crate in our opinion.  He is a joy to walk on the lead (considering he had never been walked before) and loves all dogs. He ignores the cats and in fact tries to avoid them.

We need someone who will love this boy, integrate him as part of their family and NOT shut him away. He has no idea what toys are and does not know what to do with a ball, a squeaky toy or a tug toy. he is very affectionate and loves people and children. A real joy to have around and despite his abysmal past has managed to retain all the usual bullie traits, now he is free he bullie runs, commando crawls, rolls and groans and trances under bushes. He loves his bed, his food and his cuddles on the sofa, a real gent :D

She said she cant keep him as she has 4 dogs already (and one of her dogs is not great with new dogs - which is the only reason he has not been integrated as part of the pack as he plays outside with the chihuahua and one can be funny with other males). She also has 3 kids under 5, 1 is still a baby and she also short term fosters when she can.

She said if she didn't have the other dogs she would love to keep him as he is sooo affectionate. He is a klutz with the kids in the garden when he bullie runs but apart from that he is great with them.

His 'cons' are that although he loves other dogs he thinks they all should love him too and he will play continuously with them, jumping on them etc and even when he gets told off by them he still thinks they really want to play..... so doesn't stop.

His other issue is humping but from experience this is probably from stress and the changes he is experiencing, he has also been recently neutered so that should curb his enthusiasm in a few months.  :o

My dog Archie was a humper for the first few months I had him but he stopped when he settled in and he wasn't neutered at the time he stopped so it was all down the stress of the change.

I agree Alison at least he is out of the horrible existence he had and is able to experience a much nicer life.
Poor mite though.
I am going to pray that someone marvellous takes on this little chap and loves and adores him because heaven knows he really deserves this.

Wouldn't that be lovely Gilly ;D

Nicki is a very kind lady to help Rodney and let him experience a home for the first time, it was a big risk with 4 dogs and 3 kids but Rodney has been really well behaved and is just grateful to have his 'room', his bed, his garden and cuddle time.

They are all deserving cases, every last one of them but so few decent homes out there :( :(
